Six of the best // Pretty muslin squares

Never underestimate the importance of a muslin square, or ten. Every new parent knows that these soft pieces of fabric will be your constant companion over the next twelve months or so, so they may as well be pretty to look at!

There is such a vast choice of muslin squares on the market in varying sizes, but these are my top picks:

muslin squares

1 // Good old M & S have come up trumps again with these pretty muslins. Featuring bright colourful flowers and cute little bunnies, this ‘pack of two’ is sure to brighten up your changing bag. (£20, 2 pack, one size)

2 // I adore these bright, colourful ‘mull cloths’ by Bellybutton (£12.95, 2 pack, 80cm x 80cm) that My Shiny Shop sent me when Phoebe was born. They are lovely and soft and I love having a definite ‘girly’ item in my changing bag (with Jack I had all white, which was incredibly boring!) They are also available in two other patterns: blue stars and rose birds.

3 //  Bright and colourful, Faye and Lou Rainbow Muslins are super soft and highly absorbent. They come in two sizes: 60cm x 60cm (£28.95, 7 pack) and extra large ‘Cozio’ Muslins that are 90cm x 90cm (£27.95, 3 pack). Faye and Lou sent me a lovely selection of both to road-test and they are just brilliant. I tend to use the smaller ones as day to day burp cloths, and the larger ones are perfect for lining the cotbed (so I don’t have to change the bottom sheet if Phoebe possets in the night, I can just change the muslin instead!), as lightweight blankets and as swaddles. The bright colours ensure that they are easy to find in my overcrowded changing bag too.

4 // Your little one’s will love the animal prints on these Aden + Anais Jungle Jam Musy (£19.95, 3 pack, 70cm x 70cm) muslin squares.

5 // Made from organic cotton, your little one’s will adore these vibrant, fun Frugi Dinosaur/Blue Star muslin squares and they are also super soft on your little one’s skin. (£12, 2 pack, one size)

6 //  Available in three different colours; pretty pink, boisterous blue and gorgeous green, these fashion forward Sew Lomax muslin squares are available in two different sizes, 50cm x 50xm (£12.50, 3 pack) and 100cm x 100cm (£26, 3 pack). Sew Lomax very kindly sent me some gorgeous green muslins in the larger size and I adore them. They are beautifully made and are so versatile. So far I have used them as a swaddle, blanket, feeding cover when breastfeeding and as a burp cloth! They are most definitely a must have for mums.
