Review* // Bravado Nursing Bra

Bravado Designs A Medela Company

I have been a Bravado devotee since I fell pregnant with the little man over 3 years ago. After a glowing recommendation from a friend during my first pregnancy, I invested in a couple of Bravado nursing bras and wore them day and night for over a year. They were a godsend during my pregnancy, when I outgrew my staple M&S underwired numbers and essential when I started to breastfeed.

So when I was asked if I would like to review a Bravado Body Silk Seamless Nursing Bra a few weeks ago, I didn’t hesitate in saying yes. For the past few weeks, I have put it through its paces and here are my thoughts.

For those of you who haven’t heard of Bravado, they are a UK based, award-winning brand recommended by healthcare professionals and worn by celebrity mums including Beyonce, Penelope Cruz, Drew Barrymore and Angelina Jolie.

Bravado came about, as most good businesses do, around a kitchen table! Over 20 years ago, two mums with a piece of leopard print fabric and lots of vision were determined to design and produce the perfect maternity and nursing bra. And boy did they do just that.

Bravado really understand what women need and want from their bras and not only do they listen to their customers (they invest in a lot of test-wearing by expectant and nursing women in all shapes and sizes), they also take expert advice from Lactation Consultants to ensure they are also top notch functionality wise.

The Body Silk Seamless Nursing Bra is Bravado’s best selling bra, and for good reason. Crafted from a super-soft stretchy fabric that mimics the feel of silk against the skin, it features wide sides and a deep underband that offers superior support without the use of wires.

What you’ll love about it:

  • Seamless Nursing Bra: seamless buttery soft and stretchy fabric that’s comfortable to wear all day and virtually invisible under clothing.
  • Moulded removable foam cups: These seamless foam cups hide your nipples and breast pads, while giving you a beautiful shape. This really is your staple T-shirt nursing bra.
  • Flexi-Fit Support Channel: A flexible under-breast support channel, offers remarkable shape and lift while maintaining comfort and good breast health.
  • Easy to Size: This is the easiest bra to find your size which makes it perfect as either a maternity bra or a nursing bra. It comfortably fits your changing shape each step of the way.
  • Important nursing features: These include cups that drop fully and easily away from the breast and signature B-Clips that lie flat under clothing and provide one-handed nursing access.
  • A proprietary Bra Conversion Kit (BCK) (see ‘value for money?’ below…)

The Body Silk Seamless Nursing Bra not only looks good but it has all the features you could ask for in a nursing bra.

The cups unclip at the shoulder and drop down and away from your body to give your baby full access to your breast, providing you and your baby with skin-to-skin contact which is essential, especially when establishing a good breastfeeding rhythm. The nursing clips also lie flat so they can’t be seen through tight clothing and they undo and clip back in really easily providing one-handed nursing access.

It’s also worth mentioning that despite my bra being washed a gazillion times, it has held its shape really well.

The Fashion Editor of ‘Made for Mums’ claims that this is ‘The most comfortable bra you will ever wear’ and I’d be inclined to agree with her! It really does mould to your body and it’s the first bra I have ever owned (nursing or otherwise) that feels almost like a second skin. It is so comfortable I sometimes forget I’m even wearing it!

In crude terms I guess it’s similar to a sports bra in its look and feel, but the most comfortable sports bra (and prettiest) you ever did wear!

The Bravado sizing is super simple. In only 4 sizes (S,M,L and XL), it fits 32B – 46F!

You use the chart to find your rib size, find your cup size and voila, that’s your Bravado size! If you are still a little uncertain, worry not, you can give their Certified Fitters a call and they will assist you as best they can. Alternatively you can use the ‘store locator’ on their website to determine the closest store to you if you want to ‘try before you buy’.

There are also four size adjustments on the bra making it perfect for the ever expanding boobs of a pregnant mummy-to-be and for the increase/decrease of milk supply when nursing.

The Body Silk Seamless Nursing Bra is available in (from left to right) Butterscotch, Black, Ivory, Pink Ice and Latte.

bracoloursAlso keep your eye out for great seasonal colours too. These are currently Indigo Blue and Jester Red.

They also do the seamless nursing bra in a Jacquard pattern. This comes in two colours: Jungle Rose and Jungle Teal.

Untitled I was actually sent the Jungle Rose bra to review, and although it’s not something I would have initially chosen myself (I’m a bit of a boring black/white/nude underwear kinda gal), It’s actually rather nice to have a splash of colour in the maternity underwear draw and the pattern is lovely.

Retailing at £30 (or £32 for the Jacquard pattern) it’s probably not the cheapest maternity bra on the market but I’m a great believer in ‘you get what you pay for’ and I would thoroughly recommend investing in one.

The bra also comes with the genius Bra Conversion Kits, with B-shaped clips that change your nursing bra into a ‘regular bra’ once your nursing journey is complete. This is the perfect solution for those of you who are slightly reluctant to spend money on buying maternity wear when it will only be worn for a relatively short period of time.

I can’t recommend The Bravado Body Silk Seamless Nursing Bra highly enough. It’s comfortable, supportive and very practical. A definite ‘must buy’ for your maternity and nursing wardrobe.

You can purchase this bra (or one of their other maternity and nursing bras/vests) on the Bravado website or visit one of the many Bravado retailers across the country. And don’t forget to join the Bravado Facebook page so you can stay up to date with the latest news, discounts, and new products.

Disclosure: I was very kindly sent this bra free of charge for the purpose of this review, however all opinions are my own and I’d still rave about it even if i’d paid for it!
