Jamie’s Comfort Food // Book Review

Comfort-Food-Cover-Canada-1I’m been a huge fan of Jamie Oliver ever since he burst onto the scene with his Naked Chef series, so I was super excited when I heard he had another cookbook coming out – Jamie’s Comfort Food. I already own a number of his cookbooks, all of which I love, but I have to say this book might just be Jamie’s best yet!

It’s all about the dishes that are close to your heart, that put a smile on your face and make you feel happy, loved, safe and secure. The 100 new recipes are inspired by everything from childhood memories to the changing of the seasons, and take into account the guilty pleasures and sweet indulgences that everyone enjoys.

The book includes classic comfort foods such as toasted cheese sandwiches and chilli, crowd-pleasers such as chicken tikka masala, guilty pleasures such as the incredible insanity burger and indulgent sweets like celebration chocolate cake and scrumptious sticky toffee pudding. In addition Vietnamese pho, black daal, Ghanaian groundnut stew, Japanese katsu curry and Egyptian kushari are a few of the more unusual dishes which pay homage to contemporary London with its diverse street food and kitchens.

As with all his books, the photography and food styling is gorgeous and I love how Jamie writes his recipes in his down-to-earth and easy-to-understand style. This book, like all the others,  is unmistakably full of his voice and enthusiasm. I also really like the layout of the book and with it being divided into categories (Nostalgia, Good Mood Food,Pick Me Ups, Ritual, Guilty Pleasures and Sweet Indulgence) you can quickly find what you’re after. Handily you can also find the nutritional content of each recipe at the back of the book if you’re that way inclined!

I have really enjoyed this recipe book so far. It’s a feel-good book of feel-good food, and I would wholeheartedly recommend it. It’s not the cheapest recipe book out there, (it has a £30 cover price), but if you shop around online, you can currently find it discounted for as little as £12.50 (Amazon btw!)

This really is the perfect Christmas gift for any budding chefs out there.

Tomorrow I will share the recipe (and photos) of my latest bake from this book; the most deliciously moreish Peanut Butter and Jelly Brownies!!
